COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
NAIL (ROOFING COMPOSITION)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description in preference to type II, style 20 of Federal Specification FF-N-105.
This description covers commercial quality roofing nails suitable for attaching shingles and roofing to under layment.
Salient characteristics:
Design. The commercial quality steel nails shall have flat heads, with barbed shanks, diamond points, and shall be zinc coated.
Dimensions. Roofing nails shall have the following dimensions and number per pound in table 1.

Tolerances:
Shank diameters (D) shall be + 0.004 inch.
Head diameter (H) shall be + 10 percent.
Length (L) tolerances for nails 1-inch or less shall be + 1/32 inch. Tolerances for nails greater than 1-inch in length shall be + 1/16 inch.
Number per round tolerances shall be + 5 percent.
Zinc coating. Zinc coating shall be in accordance with standard commercial practice.
Workmanship. Items covered by this specification shall be true to shape, well finished, reasonably free from imperfections, clean and free of corrosion.
Regulatory requirements. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials in accordance with Public Law 94-580 to the maximum extent practicable.
Preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking. The preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.
