COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
NAIL (BOX, BRIGHT)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to type II, style 4 of Federal Specification FF-N-105.
This description covers industrial quality box nails suitable for fastening light wood construction.
Salient characteristics:
Design. Box nails shall have flat heads, round smooth shanks ad diamond pints. When specified the nails shall be mechanical driver quality.
Dimensions. The dimensions and number per pound for box nails shall be as specified in table I.

Tolerances:
Shank diameters (D) of 0.76 or less shall have tolerances of + 0.002 inch. Shank diameters greater than 0.076 inch shall have tolerances of + 0.004 inch.
Head diameters (H) shall be + 10 percent of the specified H for hand-driven nails and as per the manufacturer’s specification for machine-driven nails.
Length (L) for nails 2-1/2 inches or less in length the tolerances shall be + 1/16 inch. For nails greater than 2-1/2 inches in length the tolerances shall be + 3/32 inch.
Steel wire. Steel wire shall be of good commercial quality, entirely suitable for the purpose and sufficiently ductile to insure that the finished product shall withstand, without fracture, cold bending through 180 degrees over a diameter not greater than the diameter of the wire.
Workmanship. Items covered by this description shall be true to shape, well finished, reasonably free from imperfections, clean and free of corrosion. Mechanically driven cohered items shall be uniform and properly aligned in their assembled form.
Regulatory requirements. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials in accordance with Public Law 94-580 to the maximum extent practicable.
Preservation, Packaging, Packing, labeling, and marking. The preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.
Note. Purchaser should specify sizes in contract or ordering documents.
